In 2013 I joined Expressen with the goal of, together with a few others, build a new development department. This is the story of how we went from zero to 60 developers. This is the story of how we gradually went from a monolithic .NET CMS to a plethora of small applications built with Node. This is the story of how we built an agile and fearless culture. While I don't have all the answers, far from it, few have the opportunity to build a new development department from scratch in a billion SEK company with a strong brand and I'll share some of the lessons that we've learnt. Both technical and organizational.
Since 2013 Joel has been working as lead developer at Expressen, one of the leading media sites in Sweden. At Expressen Joel has been a part of a team building a new development department from scratch and leading Expressen’s technical journey from a monolithic CMS to distributed systems built with Node.JS.Prior to working at Expressen Joel worked as a consultant for many years. He also co-founded the company 200OK which built a search product based on ElasticSearch. The company was later acquired by EPiServer.
